Another way to earn revenue from your customers using this one psychology trick
Imagine planning to buy a sweatshirt from your new favorite clothing brand.
They are a company that does drops, so you have to be quick when they release their clothing lines.
You’ve been eyeing up this one sweatshirt for 3 months now.
A coffee brown, cotton stitched, and soft-to-the-touch sweatshirt.
Your favorite design of the brand’s logo etched into the material, never to be washed away.
And a stringed hood with the strongest knots so you never have to worry about a stringless hoodie out of the wash ever again.
Its price is premium, meaning it is quality.
You don’t normally make these high-end purchases, but there’s just something about this one.
The hoodie is $69 and you’ve been saving just for this one.
Upon typing in your credit card details and feeling satisfied with receiving that order confirmation email, you’re hit with a dilemma….
“We saved something for you…..”
You open the email, and find the deal of a lifetime just hit you in the face.
“ Before we ship out your sweatshirt, we wanted to let you know you’ve just unlocked our (Exclusive Drop Discount) which allows you to get the matching sweatpants for 50% off making it a set! The best part? If you get these sweatpants here with the discount, we’ll make sure to send them out with the sweatshirt you just ordered so they ship at the same exact time. So when you get your order right at your door, you can go to school the next day and show off your premium matching set. “
What other option do you have?
You’ve been waiting months to purchase, and now you just got access to your second favorite piece from the drop for 50% off.
And since you’re spending the money anyway, it makes sense just to buy the matching set as a whole, and honestly the discount is a bonus.
Besides, this drop is a one-time thing and you’ve been waiting months to save up for this. You actually had a little extra cash set aside in case there was something else you saw in the drop!
But when you looked, those sweatpants were too pricy.
And now they are 50% off, and will get shipped with my order! It’s a no-brainer at this point.

As you can see in the dialogue, it provides an opportunity for the customer to buy an additional product ( usually at a discount ) and is included in the same shipping!
Convenient for the customer because then they don’t have to wait any longer to get the product, and if they expedited shipping they can get two products for the cost of 1 expedited shipping!
This email is so powerful because the customer has just bought, which confirms their interest in our products.
All we have to do is use this buying behavior to our advantage and use psychology to upsell.
