Day 29: Why CTR's Matter

A quick lesson on how to get more clicks

CTR’s

They matter.

They matter more if you have a very low percentage, and matter less if you have a higher percentage and low conversions.

I might be talking gibberish for some of you, so let’s break it down:

Click Through Rate

It measures the percentage of people who click a link compared to the total number of people who see it.

For example:

I bet you over 100 people saw that link, and maybe 1 person clicked it.

That would mean my CTR is about 1%.

But just because someone clicks the link, doesn’t mean they took action when they got to the destination it brings them.

For example:

If you send out a sales email and receive a 3% CTR from a list of 10,000 people.

You did an amazing job!

But then you see the revenue for that email was $200.

What happened?

Click-through rates are only a good thing when you have a compelling offer.

The more clicks you get doesn’t always mean you have high conversions.

Which is what we want ( more revenue ).

The reason revenue could be so low in comparison to the total number of clicks could be for a number of reasons:

Let’s take a lesson from yesterday’s email and apply it to CTRs and Conversions…..

Imagine I send you an email that says:

“ Hey, I found a really funny story on cats in the news today. I just know you're going to laugh, check it out here {LINK}. “

Now that might be a compelling way to get your friend to click a link, but what if the link brought him to a cat litter box product?

I don’t know about you, but that would be an instant turn-off.

There I was expecting to laugh, and what I got was a sales pitch.

 What’s the takeaway?

Just like from yesterday’s email lesson, we want to stay consistent.

If you are sending viewers to a link, make sure you are sending them where they want to go. ( based on the intention of their link click )

We want to establish trust and convert the highest.

If you told them to click here for $20 Sunglasses, and when they clicked the link it was $20 sunglasses.

Chances are they are buying those sunglasses!

As simple as this rule may seem, it can truly fix your revenue problems from your emails, and you might see a lower CTR, but a lot more money.

So that’s the takeaway.

Just like the first sentence, CTRs matter.

And now you know it’s okay to be at a lower rate, you will earn a higher rate of sales.

If you’re still confused, or want to have this done for you:
